If you love wine, are somewhat adventurous and have an open mind, it’s possible you could be a Grape Geek. . .
Find out when you attend our next Grape Geek dinner on Thursday, August 16 at La Fête!
Michel has long had an affinity for the obscure vineyard and non-noble grape (noble being the designation given the well-known grapes from Burgundy and Bordeaux), as evidenced in the Bouchon wine list. While considering a way to encourage enjoyment of the more arcane grape varietals, he mentioned his interest to a pétanque pal, Jordan Caldwell, who tipped him to this recent article from the New York Times. To read the article (highly recommended!), click here. The article, by writer/wine & spirits educator Jason Wilson, confirmed Michel’s instincts about unknown varietals and inspired him to put his inclination into action.
Et voilá! The Grape Geek dinners are here!
A monthly series of six reservation-only dinners held at our new event venue, La Fête (the spot across the courtyard formerly known as Pete’s Pies and before that, Crêperie Bouchon), is in the works. Dinners will be limited to thirty seats and will feature a five-course meal paired with wines. Cost is $75 per person, (plus tax & service). Menus and wines for the dinners, in keeping with the “open mind” approach, will not be divulged in advance.
Local wine pro, Richard McKinney of Tryon Distributing, is Michel’s co-conspirator for the Grape Geek dinners. Asheville native Richard has been all over the globe in his 25 years in the wine biz, with a particular affinity for European wines. He’ll choose appropriately weird wines, introduce them and provide expert commentary at each dinner.
The third dinner, at 6:30 on Thursday, August 16 will introduce Grape Geeks to some of Europe’s lesser-known varietals. To reserve your place, send an email to email@example.com. Put “Grape Geek” in the subject line, and include the number in your party with a contact phone number in your message.
Bring your spirit of adventure, inquiring mind and an appetite (along with your $75) for a great Grape Geek experience! See you on Thursday, August 16!
